CTA Media Kit
Established in 1934, the California Trucking Association enters its 74th year of serving the businesses that operate trucks providing goods and services to Californians and the companies that provide products and services to those companies. Our members transport 85% of the shipments that travel on California's highways each day. Our membership ranges from the self-employed owner-operator, to the one-person consulting firm, to the large international motor carriers and truck manufacturers and everything in between.
For more than 7 decades, CTA has provided membership exclusive benefits that advance the long-term sustainable profitability of our motor carriers and suppliers. Those benefits include legislative and regulatory representation, advocacy, training, education, buying programs, public relations, image enhancement, trade shows, expositions, workshops, networking, and leadership development.
Covering the state with 12 regional Units (Chapters), and 13 specific industry specialty conferences that develop policy for Intermodal Drayage, Agriculture, Heavy Specialized, Bulk Carriers, General Freight, Multi State, International Border Crossing, Waste Haulers, Petroleum Tank Truck, Refrigerated Carriers, Heavy-duty Tow and Hay & Forest Products. In addition to these specialized conferences CTA has Policy Committees that address the following industry related issues:
Highway – Committee members review the tax and fee structure of city, county, state and federal government with respect to motor carriers and truck operations. Committee members review size, weight and permitting regulations of all levels of government and consider the efficiency and productivity impacts on the trucking industry. Committee members also examine government regulations, such as truck routing, customs, trade agreements and requirements on cross-border operations. The Committee recommends policy positions in all these matters.
Environmental– Committee members analyze and recommend policies that promote market-based approaches to meeting state and federal environmental requirements. The committee examines local, regional, statewide and federal regulations, laws and proposed legislation to determine the impact on California carriers from competitive and compliance perspectives.
Safety, Security and Human Resources – Committee members examine and recommend positions on safety practices, regulations and proposed or pending legislation with respect to personnel, equipment, operations and security matters. Committee members evaluate and recommend direction for Association safety programs, including the Fleet Safety Contest, the California Truck Driver Championships, the Driver of the Month/Year Program, and the Annual Motor Carrier Safety Symposium. The committee examines human resource issues, such as wage and hour or OSHA standards, and recommends guidance and policy direction.
CTA arrives at its decisions through open debate and democratic voting. Every member, large or small, has one vote. The member exercises his or her vote at their Unit meetings, their Conferences and their Policy Committees. If elected to the Board or Executive Committee, the member participates in the direct governing body of the association. The membership receives quality results through an outstanding network of volunteers, endorsed program partners and a professional and highly trained staff.
